Sister Regina Bernadette Wesnofske, OP died at 11 p.m. on Thursday, October 4,2012. She was 94 years of age and had dedicated 78 years to religious life as a Sister of St. Dominic.  Regina Stella was born on Long Island, New York on July 24, 1918. Her parents were Martin and Mary Wesnofske. "Jeanie" was one of twelve children.

At the time of her entrance into religious life on August 30, 1934, she was a member of St. Hugh Parish, Huntington Station. She received the habit on August 15, 1935 and was given her religious name Sister Regina Bernadette. One year later, August 18, 1936, Sister pronounced her religious vows.

Sister gave of her great energy as an educator in St. Martin, Amityville. In 1938 she moved to Brooklyn and taught in St. Michael, East New York, and Our Lady of Solace, Coney Island. From 1940-1947 she taught in Corpus Christ, Mineola. In 1947-1949 she moved to St. Pancras, Glendale; 1958-1962, St. Patrick, Huntington; 1962-1965, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Lindenhurst, and 1965-1969, St. Catherine of Siena, Franklin Square.

From 1969-1972 she acted as chauffeur to our retired Sisters in Villa Maria, Water Mill. Sister was able to develop and share her great love for books as assistant librarian in Maria Regina High School, Uniondale, 1972-1984 and Corpus Christi, Mineola, 1984-1988. Even when she retired and moved to Rosary Hall, Amityville, Sister volunteered to work in the library of St. Anthony High School, Huntington, a few days a week.

An example of her influence on children was personified by the weekly visit of one of her students when she was in the Motherhouse. The devotion of her family was seen by their many visits. Sister's other great love was reading and spreading the word of God. She was the "best customer" of St. Albert Library in Amityville, always seeking additional sources of clarification to bring to her study group.

Sister is survived by her sister Beatrice Frey of Huntington Station, and her brother Albert of Commack. The faithfulness of her nephew Eugene and niece Regina and all her nieces and nephews will long be remembered.
