Anton Manelski Father of Johanna Manelski May 21, 1916 - Syosset, L.I. Wife Mary was murdered in August 1906 while in the midst of baking blackberry pies in her kitchen. The murder remained unsolved although suspicion was first cast on a coachman from the estate of a wealthy neighboring lawyer of NYC and then on three strangers passing though the very rural area. The house was found ransacked and $1000 was said to have been taken from a closet in the the house The Manelski couple had been renting a farm on East Williston Ave that became the property in 1913 for the site of the new Wheatley Hills Golf Club. |

Making the Family Farm Work Cultivating the fields (1917) Oldest son Joseph cultivating with two mules. Mules were known to be difficult and stubborn. Family folklore records these creatures as having been exceptionally difficult to manage. |
